AT 5'9, 21-year-old Wendie Olape is the tallest among 15 lovely candidates of this year's Miss Cagayan de Oro 2006 pageant. For a Filipina, her frame is exceptional.
Her hobbies include volleyball and swimming and she was awarded the Best in Swimsuit award in a competition this weekend. She is contestant number 15, representing Barangay Kauswagan.

Wendy finished International Studies at Xavier University, and is now part of the young, talented corporate-savvies employed at the Limketkai corporate office. She wants to work as a flight attendant, she said.

To say that her towering height was responsible for her conquest is an understatement. In a rivalry of poise and grace and other special physical attributes, Wendy stood out from the rest being one who has the most flawless complexion among candidates.

Judges were also seeking for that intangible X-factor, something that exudes in Wendy's simplicity, all unmistakable in the way she poses, walks or smiles.

Held in the verdant ambiance of the Koresco hotel in Pueblo de Oro, the swimsuit competition is one of the pre-pageant contests in the run-up to the Miss CdeO coronation night this Thursday.

Other early winners in other major awards are Jedyl Jamaca and Jeremy Cisneros who grabbed the Darling of the Press and Best in Talent awards.

Although a quick downpour had threatened to spoil the competition, it did not dampen the spirits of the tank suit-clad pageant hopefuls and organizers. After the competition ended, the candidates were up and ready again for the Sponsors' Night, graced by the city's top officials and business personalities who form part of the pageant's financial backbone. Civic leader Rhia Rita Abalos, the pageant's indefatigable fairy godmother, thanked all sponsors who she said have been "very generous to this undertaking."

Miss CdeO pageant is one of the main highlights of the Kagay-an festival, which falls every last week of August. This year's presenters include Globe Telecom, San Miguel Corporation and Negros Navigation. Major sponsors are: Cagayan de Oro Representative Constantino Jaraula, Gibi of SM City Department Store, Agfa Colorhouse and Sun.Star Daily.
