'Wowowee' show to go on in Oro"

SCRAPPED for a myriad security concerns, organizers of last month's Fiesta de Oro yesterday announced the showing of popular TV game show "Wowowie" here on September 16.

The Willie Revillame-hosted noontime show was part of the original Cagayan de Oro fiesta activities but was abandoned on the last minute amid concerns on the safety of the public.

Concerns were also raised on the readiness of the city government to response on emergency situation, health and other sanitation issues during the event which was expected to draw at least 30,000 people.

Security jitters had earlier gripped the holding of the show elsewhere after one of it's off-site staging caused a stampede in Ultra stadium, killing scores of fans and injuring hundreds of others.

However, personnel from the local ABS-CBN network--the broadcast giant which airs the show--told the fiesta committee members that the show will go on and appealed for assistance to prevent a repeat of the Ultra tragedy. They set the show on September 16, a Saturday, at the Limketkai grounds.
